- intercultural self-learning network "ISLE-network" Visions for non-formal education in Africa The goal is to develop and to promote skills and natural talents in young people to trigger a process of autonomous individual development in an encouraging society. The medium-term goal is to create a situation in which the individuals will reach an educational level which secures their livelihood through own economic activities - at least in the informal sector. Therefore, talented unemployed young people learn to promote self-motivated learning and networking activities in other children and youth and to encourage them to continue these activities on their own. They also produce and sell self-learning-materials (educational toys etc.) so that the activities function sufficiently and without outside help. The aim is to encourage independence and responsibility as soon as possible. Learning and working methods from the dynamic informal sector and a culture of private initiative to promote individual talents are integrated. Local public relations campaigns promote the popularity of the programme. This method is already in operation in several regions like Ivory Coast and is a proven means of promoting the potentials of young people to become economic independent adults, thus helping to give them a perspective for the future. In the long run, this sustainable development might help Africa to solve its own problems. Summary: We are convinced that the ISLE-Network is outstandingly useful for promoting the potential capacities of life-long self-development activities.

- Trying to define the term informal learning and contrast it to formal learning may narrow our understanding of learning processes. In the project we are moving towards a common understanding of the impact and importance of learning in practice.

- (Scroll down) +++ The big idea this year was - in two words - informal learning. The general (I almost said formal) debate on informal learning was lively. Jay Cross delivered a PowerPoint-free session that set the tone of the debate and other related sessions struggled with the idealist desire to control all learning with top-down, command and control interventions with the realistic view that most learning doesn’t actually work this way.

The primary results of the project are English and German language courses with a vocational focus. For each language there are two levels: Intermediate and Advanced.

- The Learning Organisation is a concept that is becoming an increasingly widespread philosophy in modern companies, from the largest multinationals to the smallest ventures. What is achieved by this philosophy depends considerably on one's interpretation of it and commitment to it. The quote below gives a simple definition that we felt was the true ideology behind the Learning Organisation. "A Learning Organisation is one in which people at all levels, individuals and collectively, are continually increasing their capacity to produce results they really care about."

- QUOTE: "The AKT project aims to develop the next generation of knowledge technologies to support organizational knowledge management. AKT will look at all aspects of knowledge management from acquiring and maintaining knowledge to publishing and sharing it. We intend to address all these closely related issues in an integrated approach, making use of recent developments in artificial intelligence, psychology, linguistics, multimedia and Internet technology. The AKT consortium comprises five UK universities and is funded by a 7M GBP, 6-year EPSRC grant in the context of the Interdisciplinary Research Collaborations programme."

- a great source of inspiration! quote: "Online Discourse gives us the unique opportunity to watch our work unfold. Time and distance, which are typically barriers, provide the chance to step back, reflect, and respond. The WEB Exchange is a collaborative environment that relies on group discussions rather than one-on-one mentoring to reach its goals. Exploring questions and building knowledge together present a focused, professional experience that results in mutual learning between students, educators, scholars, and artists."
